Romana: Doctor, look what we found in the back of one of the closets!
Doctor: “We”? Don’t tell me you’ve found someone else suffering from the same condition you are? And why would you bring someone aboard my TARDIS without telling me first?
Romana: What do you think?
Hayley: We look “groovy” and “fab” and all that, right?
Doctor: What…? Who…who could have left those in the TARDIS closets? Jo? No, that’s not her style at all…it must have been Polly, I suppose…
Romana: Is that all you have to say?
Doctor: Perhaps I ought to clean out those closets after all.
Hayley: Your friend’s hopeless, Romana.
LOL, couldn’t resist! 😀 Aren’t they great dresses, though? They’re both from the Etsy seller Buttoncottage, who also made the wool coat Romana was wearing over the winter in my attempt to put her in something resembling her “Destiny of the Daleks” outfit. The tights are by thedaughterwhosews, and they’re unfortunately just thigh-high tights, so the tops nearly show on Romana. (The ones Hayley’s wearing are for Pullip rather than Dal, so they go all the way up, no problem.) As to the boots…trying to find some Blythe-sized go go boots without paying a lot of money turned out to be a no go, so these are Monster High boots. (In fact, Romana’s wearing the ones that actually belong to Kaiko.) Hayley had to be positioned as pigeon-toed as I could make her stand, because her boots have red on the sides, which is entirely inappropriate for what they’re pretending to be right now.
BTW, eventually I plan on posting more of these skits. I have one written up that’s the first time the Doctor sees Romana in her new big-headed form (yeah, that should have gone up as soon as I got her, but I kept wanting a TARDIS interior set for it), and an Alice-themed skit (which should have gone up as soon as Dark Rabbit Hole arrived), and one for Harley Quinn. But I still need to get off my butt and take the pictures for those other skits…
While there are a lot of different places I could go with that title, I happen to be going to this one:
The Tuesday Mornings in my area have never been very good at getting in full-size dolls, but for a while there they were a real treasure trove of Little+ Pullip and Dal. Onyx here has always been one of my favorites. 😀
It’s so rare for Groove to release a doll with this skin coloration! (It really needs to become more common.) I think her purple eyes really look good against the dark skin.
Hmm, you know, I should have taken a photo of the die cast shield that belonged to another Onyx I used to own: the one from Galoob’s Golden Girl line. Yeah, that would have been good. (No longer have any of the dolls apart from one I found at an antique mall, but of course I kept their awesome shields!)
So, I finally got some pictures taken of my dolls with their homemade barrettes in place. I’ll start off with the doll who inspired the whole project:
There’s something else to see here, before I get to my barrettes, though. See? She’s got new shoes:
They’re a little bit large for her, being intended for Blythes, but as long as you don’t get this close, they look fine. 😛 They’re by MissBlythe2012 on Etsy. The important thing is, they match her lovely dress, and they aren’t Barbie pumps, so they’re not going to break. (Seriously, the white Barbie shoes she was wearing in the earlier shot of her in this dress? One of them developed a fracture running through it. All I can think is that they’re not designed to hold up the weight of a Pullip head.) I don’t have a lot of other red clothes — though they might look nice with Romana’s stock outfit, now that I think about it — but since the red looks so good with the tanned skin tone, I’ll just have to get more red clothes for Barbara and Selina.
Anyway, here’s the barrette that started this new application of my resin stuff. Or rather, the barrette whose need started the…well, anyway, the shade of red isn’t quite right, being a bit too dark, but it still looks a lot better than that Monster High barrette did. And it holds her hair out of her face, which is the important part. :p
I finally got those photos taken! 😀 So before I get to the two new wigs, it occurs to me that I haven’t shown you Mei-lin’s new wig, which arrived at the same time as Sakura’s. I still haven’t figured out how to style it, though. 😦
It occurs to me that I forgot to credit the Etsy shop where I got Sakura’s wig, so let me fix that error now: Sakura’s and Mei-lin’s wigs came from fatiao, and they’re very nice wigs. A tiny bit large for these heads, but the ones from the Junky Spot were a tiny bit small, so…these heads are apparently exceptionally hard to wig correctly. (Truthfully, the ideal solution would be to root them. But that would require skill and patience, two things I have none of. Well, no, I have some patience. I just don’t have the time.)
Moving on, meet my Parabox/Azone hybrid Li Syaoran:
Since Syaoran isn’t really a big smile kind of guy, I was going more for a shouting mouth than a smiling one. (Not sure if that worked out too well or not…) He’s got big, chunky eyebrows, ’cause Syaoran has big, chunky eyebrows in the manga/anime. The wig is by evali905, and it looked a bit more Syaoran-like on the seller’s model doll…in part because it actually fit that doll. 😛 It’s slightly larger than the wigs on Sakura and Mei-lin, so it rolls around a bit on his head. (Yeah, I’m going to do something to make it move around less. I just haven’t decided what yet. Velcro, maybe.)
If I’m not careful in dealing with his hat (which is now waaaaaay too small), his hair does this:
Suddenly he’s gone from being Syaoran to being Ascot! (Although, actually, I seem to recall my first reaction to Syaoran was to go “look out, it’s Ascot!”) Anyway, I think the way to fix the hat issue is to cut it open at the back and widen it. Though that’ll probably look pretty bad, too. Technically, I think I need to have a new one made, but…no idea where, when or by whom, y’know?
Anyway, there was one more wig that winged its way here from the other side of the world:
The wig is by FlowerZero, and it’s a nice wig (though a tiny bit thin in the bangs), but I misread the size: I thought this was going to be big enough for Juliet to wear. Instead it’s so small that just getting it on Hayley was a struggle.
Since this wig was too small for Juliet, I had to order her another wig. 😦 This time I hedged my bets and ordered two. And they’re specifically Pullip-sized, so they will fit. They just might not look good, because Pullip bangs might be too long for her. We’ll just have to see what happens when they get here.
Tomorrow will be a Silent Sunday post (not sure what, yet, but I’ve got a few random photos stockpiled for such occasions) so Monday I’ll post about the stuff I found at Target the other day.
A bunch of small stuff tonight, nothing that feels quite like a whole post by itself. I’ve been too depressed the past few days to get anything done, really, so there’s no news on Pyrrha, and Sakura’s face still isn’t finished. (Her wig and Mei-lin’s new wig have both arrived, though. But I still can’t style Mei-lin’s wig, ’cause the style is too hard for me to accomplish on those little wigs. I need to figure that out somehow…)
We’ll start with the pull strings. I had wanted to wait until all three of my girls had their pull strings prettied up, but given Pyrrha’s situation, there’s no point in doing anything to her string until her eye mechanism is fixed up.
Obviously, I wanted her pull string to reflect her theme. So instead of a ring, she’s got a jumbo red heart, and in addition there’s a rose that’s in the midst of being painted red, and a mushroom for the caterpillar. I also got some neat black metal locks and a key, but there was no room. I’ll use them on the second string if I ever decide to give her sleep eyes.
Obviously, the theme here was TARDIS blue, with some gears thrown in to go with the gear-themed eye chips I’m going to give her eventually. I think my homemade TARDIS charm worked out pretty well. 🙂 Sadly, though, three of the types of beads I got to use for her pull string had such tiny holes that I couldn’t get them on the string. 😦
The blue crystals were supposed to represent the crystals from Metabilis III. The black pearls just looked cool (like asteroids or something?) and the sparkly black cubes had a nice starfield-like look to them. But none of them could fit on the string. 😦
Anyway, speaking of space-type stuff:
Yup, I finally opened the two original Little Pullip dolls.
So now that I’ve opened them, I can give some comparison notes between Little and Little+. The stands are a bit different (so naturally I forgot to take a picture of the empty stands), but I can’t compare how well they work, because the outfits on both Littles prevented me from using their stands. (Naturally.) The hair in R’s wig is of a decidedly lower quality than any other Pullip wig — of any size — in my collection, but Cosmic Jupi’s wig is more normal, so I think it’s just that R got odd hair. The main difference is in the face. The plastic has a different texture, and feels a bit less refined in the original Littles, and the face-ups on the Little+ dolls are much more advanced. Also, some of the Little+ dolls have nicer eyes, though many have eyes that are basically identical to the ones on the original Littles. As far as I can tell (without undressing the dolls) the bodies are pretty much unchanged.
And finally, I’ve come up with a name for Dal Hangry:
I’ve been trying to put together collection pages, with accompanying photo galleries, and as I was doing that this morning, I realized I couldn’t get any further on the Dal page until this girl had a name of her own. And — just after I shut down the computer to come back to it later — I looked up at her in her Doctor Who-themed outfit, and remembered what my brother had told me about how Hayley Atwell wants to be the next Doctor, and I thought “hey, that’s not a bad name!” I had wanted her to have an H-name, since Angry got named Aiko, and…I dunno, it just felt right, even though it doesn’t particularly fit the personality she’s developing.
Fixing Pyrrha’s eye mechanism is still on hold until I can go look for plastic-sticked cotton swabs, but I finally got around to some re-bodying.
So I’ve been wanting to give my Dal Len a male Obitsu body pretty much since the day he arrived here, right? I’d seen this lovely tutorial on re-bodying Pullips with Obitsu bodies, so I thought I knew just what I’d have to do in order to make the swap from Dal body to 23 cm male Obitsu body. Then I got a look at the 23 cm body’s neck:
And, as a reminder, this is the neck on the Dal body:
In the conventional Pullip swap, you just need to get the two plugs compatible, right? But this one has an added challenge above and beyond reducing the size of the plug:
Apparently, the larger body sizes (or maybe it’s the female bodies?) have the screw below the plug. But here it’s at the top. And this is the plug that goes on top, viewed from the underside:
See the lip at the far end? That would be the first thing to go if I was to simply sand the plug down, but that’s also the part that holds it in place on the stick below. So sanding really wasn’t an option here, and I had to find another solution.
I made a mold of the plug on the Dal body neck, and cast a rough plug in opaque resin. (Which I haven’t worked with since learning I couldn’t add paint to color it, and I had the unpleasant surprise discovery that a bit of partially catalyzed resin had gotten on the interior of the lid of one of the bottles, so I had to cut a hole in the side and transfer the rest into an empty water bottle. Fortunately, it was the yellow stuff, so I won’t mistake it for water later on. 😛 )
Of course, then I had to cut off the excess, sand it down to a more-or-less flat surface and drill a hole through it, then sand down the stick it connects to, and use the drill to extend the screw hole further than it originally went. But eventually, I got it to this point:
Honestly, I should have kept going; there’s a lot more gap there than there is on the Dal body, but I was afraid to sand any further down. I think what I need to do is to widen the hole on the resin so that it’ll pass down around the stick a bit. But I’ll have to take poor Len apart again to do that, because he’s now re-assembled on his new, male body:
His head is way wobbly, and his clothes fit awkwardly, but at least he no longer has breasts. (His head should get less wobbly after I adjust the resin plug a bit more. But I’ll want to figure out where the heck my set of jeweler’s files disappeared to yesterday before I can do that…)
He can now look like he’s really playing his…um…keytar? (What the heck is that thing called?) I do love the changeable hands, but I wish he came with a V-for-Victory set of hands. That would have made that earlier picture perfect. 😛
I sorta want to get Rin an Obitsu body now, too. After I figure out how to fix the problems with Len’s wobbly head, anyway. 😛 (I also really need to figure out a good way to re-style his hair, ’cause that is so not what it’s supposed to look like.)
Anyway, not being the type who likes to have dolly parts lying around unused, I had to find a new head for the old Dal body, and that was easily accomplished:
Technically, the Licca clothes are a bit baggy on the Dal body — and the shoes are laughably large for tiny Dal feet — but they don’t look too bad…except for one tiny problem:
Miku now has the wrong number on her arm. 😛 (Maybe she’s getting ready to perform “Rin-chan Now!“?) Anyway, my Licca Miku is now just as poseable as my Pullip Luka:
(Yeah, it’s been a while since I posted anything that crazy/creepy, right?)
Anyway, the Licca body has moved over to another Miku:
The reason I wanted to give Yuki Miku the Licca body was because of those black tights. They didn’t fit the Azone body properly. And so instead of giving the Dal body to Yuki Miku here and leaving regular Miku as she was, I thought I’d do this swap, so that the tights would actually fit. The Azone body now belongs to Sakura…not that I’ve actually started applying her face or anything yet. (Syaoran’s face is almost done, though! And both of their wigs are on the way.)
Speaking of black tights, though, I need to get some in Pure Neemo XS size. ‘Cause I ordered one of the bendy Sakura dolls’ outfits off of Etsy, but it didn’t have its black tights or its kitty-ear headband. I can make the headband (eventually), but the tights…I’ll need to buy those. I didn’t find any Pure Neemo XS sized clothes on Etsy, though. Not any black tights, at least. I should probably check AmiAmi before I order black tights in another doll size, huh? (Only just thought of that…)
The headbands are going to be another question entirely, of course. I tested the one headband I already had on Mei-lin’s head, and it didn’t fit her. So I’ll need to make a mold of a headband blank, I suppose, and then make resin copies of the wings off the headband I have, and add those on to one blank headband, and add kitty ears on to another blank headband. I just have to figure out the size of headband to use for the mold first. (Monster High will be a bit big, but I think Barbie will be a bit small…and I’m not sure I can find a blank Barbie headband anyway.)
I thought I would share my adventures(?) in trying to find just the right match between doll and wig. Or “the right match for the moment,” at least.
There’s two size sets being dealt with, tiny (Little Pullip+ and BJD Ai size) and large (1/3 scale and Pullip size), but before I get to the wigs, I think I’ll share Juliet’s new shirt first.
This is her total look with the new shirt and everything. The new shirt’s cute, right? It’s by ttyacom. I just love the owl. 🙂
This picture is the reason I wanted to start with the shirt: I realized that, gorgeous as this wig is, it just doesn’t work on her. Juliet needs bangs. So her wig is in the mix here as well. (I’ve ordered a new one on Etsy, but we’ll just have to wait and see if it looks right on her. Also I’m hoping it won’t clash with her clothes…)
But I’m going to start the swapping with the little size, because it’s a lot faster; only two dolls, with two wigs each.
The Little Byul+ there was originally dressed in a My Melody kigurumi costume, which is naturally why her hair was so crazy short. (You may have recognized her wig as the one Suve is now wearing.) Her new dress is off some Disney doll I found at Tuesday Mornings. Melitta’s stock wig looks much better on Byul than that little pink one, don’t you think? It certainly looks better with that dress than it does with Melitta’s current outfit.
As to Melitta’s new wig, it’s by LalamShop, and it was actually intended for Little Pullip+ rather than BJD Ai, but they wear the same size, so that’s cool. 🙂 It’s an improvement in terms of wig/outfit compatibility, but still not quite meshing. I think I need to find Melitta a new outfit. Maybe if I just got her a skirt to replace the jeans?
