Of course, she’s supposed to hang off the side of a glass (or vase, or potted plant, or whatever) but I didn’t, y’know, do that. ‘Cause lazy. 😛
Desperate help is needed from fellow Utena fans!
There’s a Kickstarter going on right now for some really awesome enamel pins. I’m not asking anyone to back them, though. (Although if you like enamel pins and anime, you probably don’t want to miss these!)
The pins are already fully funded, and they’ve unlocked the four designs shown above (in silhouette and skintone versions), which is all the campaign originally had planned. So now there’s a vote for what the fifth and final design will be.
And this is where everyone else comes in. The update with the poll is actually for backers only, so I can’t send you to it, which is a bit awkward. I’ll just pass on the links contained within it, then. The artist’s also polling on Instagram and Facebook, where I can’t vote, as I don’t have accounts with either site.
So, if anyone out there is on Instagram and Facebook and feels generous with their time, I’d like to beg them to go and vote for the Utena/Anthy pin to be the last design.
Because I totally need it.
I mean, like, to the point that as soon as I saw the first image, I thought “yeah, but if you’re doing stained glass, you should be doing Utena!”
(Yes, this has been utterly selfish and possibly a violation of the rules of the vote. What’s your point?)
(LOL, you could also take up the grass roots plea for a Toya/Yukito design. One person mentioned that as their true choice, and now at least two more of us have said “yup, I’d buy that.”)
Since Thursday is the day of pigging out — er, Thanksgiving — in the US, I thought I’d put up a blind box figure related to food. I didn’t have any handy, though. (Technically, I do have a couple I haven’t photographed yet, but I need to focus as much time and energy right now as I can on NaNo, so…yeah, that wasn’t happening.)
This is what I came up with.
Well, at least she’s holding ice cream, which is a food, so…kinda-sorta thematic? Maybe?
Anyway, here’s the box she came in:
As you might guess, I was after the two shown on the top. 😉 Full box shots are in the gallery. Click on either photo to check it out. Though it’s the gallery for the whole Blind Box category, so you’ll have to scroll down a while.
Speaking of the gallery, I’ve uploaded all my old photos now (wait, did I say that already?) and just have to go through and make sure they’re all properly arranged in albums and update all my old posts and…yikes, that’s gonna be a lot of work. I’ll have to watch some movies/TV while doing it. And obviously I won’t be starting on that task until December at the earliest.
And now, back to my regularly scheduled frantic novel writing!
Just a random little post…sort of. Apparently October is LGBT History Month, which I had never known until I got an e-mail about it from the university. I used up most of my LGBT material back in June, though, so…here’s a random shot of Haruka and Michiru I took during the photo shoot earlier.
They’re heading off for a night on the town (or something).
I still haven’t replaced Haruka’s broken-footed body, because…well, reasons. (I’m still on the fence about getting another Pullip body or trading out for an Obitsu, among other things.) Michiru’s new dress is a Blythe dress by sleepforever. It’s actually a bit risqué (the top part is see-through), but otherwise I think it’s totally her style. 🙂
They’re up on a little wall-mounted mini-shelf in my bedroom, which had formerly been filled with manga (for reasons that made sense at the time) that’s been cleared away to make more room for dolls. (Because what else matters, right?) As to the other occupant of the shelf, whose hair you can see in the photo… Continue reading
Picture, if you will, that Usagi somehow dragged Michiru and Haruka into a clothing store, and is shoving clothes at them in the changing rooms…
Yeah…that was weird. (And probably more than a little OOC, especially on Haruka’s part.) But I was trying a handful of clothes I’d brought with me on them to see what would fit/look right, and this just sort of came at me and I had to do it. 😛 Would have been easier if I could have gotten Haruka’s boots off…
…actually, it was two photo shoot sessions, and for the second one I managed to get one boot off, then tried so hard to get the other one off…that I snapped her ankle. 😦 So now Haruka has only one foot. D: I’ll have to re-body her at some point now. (And find her some replacement boots, since I can’t get the foot and partial ankle out of the one boot.) Maybe an Obitsu rather than another Pullip body, for a little added articulation. *sigh* Well, I’ve been meaning to make a Junky Spot order anyway.
In any case, that last outfit Haruka is wearing came on my new (sample) J-Doll. (Let’s not address whether or not it’s appropriate for Haruka to be going grunge…) She came with the name Charing Cross, so I’ve re-named her Sharon. She’s currently wearing Rena’s shirt and shorts. Speaking of which, who knew Haruka could channel Ciel Phantomhive so perfectly? The second photo shoot featured a lot of Shibajuku clothing packs that I got on clearance at Target. (The school uniform, the black jacket, the pink outfit, and the pink and silver outfit.) They fit so nicely (and they even fit Pyrrha, too!) that I picked up the remaining two clothing packs when I hit Target later the same day. 🙂
Anyway, this concludes our special Pride Month programming. We now return you to your regularly scheduled blog, already in progress.
(Uh…I may be composing this text too late at night…)
Anyway, if you’d like to see the gallery for the entire month’s photos (including a few rejected alternate shots), it’s here.
These didn’t quite work the way I wanted, so they’re being slammed into the same post. 😛 (Don’t worry, the last post of the month will make up for it. 😉 )
Given that Haruka tends to call girls she’s flirting with “kitten”, how could I resist having her flirt with Catra? But She-ra dolls don’t pose very well (especially if you want them to not fall over) and writing flirtatious dialog is not a skill I possess. Still…I like the idea…
The intention here was a post called “Unrequited”…
The idea was that Yuffie was hugging Tifa from behind, with the general message that she didn’t need Tifa to return her love, as long as Tifa understood that she was loved…and that she had an alternative to the spiky-haired jerk. Not that there’s anything in the game to suggest Yuffie is lesbian or bi, but there really isn’t much in the original game to say that she isn’t, either. (Dirge of Cerberus, of course, is another story entirely. And a different Yuffie entirely, having changed from Tezuka’s Dororo to Slayers‘ Amelia.) In any case, though I generally like the canon (and semi-canon) hetero pairings for these two, I also have a soft spot for pairing them with each other. (After all, Cloud’s pretty dull apart from his hair. Tifa can do better.)
Anyway, the problem here is that the original Play Arts figures don’t actually pose very well. (And although I do have a Play Arts Kai of Yuffie, I don’t have one of Tifa. And they’re a totally different scale, so I can’t use one of each Probably wouldn’t help the basic problem that Tifa’s rigid hair was completely and utterly in the way of the pose, in any case.) So I couldn’t put them in a pose anywhere near what I had visualized. Different angles helped a little, but not really enough…
This one looks like Yuffie’s offering her a tissue. (It also makes it very evident that they didn’t scale these properly. This Yuffie is much too close to Tifa in height.)
This one is awkward, because the eye reads the image as if the hand Tifa’s holding in front of her face is actually Yuffie’s hand. Also, maybe it’s just me, but something about the profile of Tifa’s breast seems lewd here…
…though that’s nothing compared to the front view of her breasts! Ugh. They should have been slightly less faithful to the original character design there. (They should also have made her skirt longer. Like with the Sailor Senshi, it’s hard to avoid panty shots. Only in Tifa’s case they actually are panties, rather than the lower section of leotards.) As a romantic shot, this one works best, but it looks more mutual than unrequited, so it’s still sort of a failure.
I managed to avoid a panty shot, but somehow this feels even more revealing. Those darned skirts need to be longer! :<
